I just figured out how noise cancelling headphones work
and I'm so excited but have no one to share it with and R's ktfo'd from pulling an all nighter
ANYWAYS noise cancelling headphones work because of destructive interference in sound waves!! The noise from the outside gets translated 180deg out of phase, which means you don't hear anything because those two sounds cancel out!!!!
AND omg POLARIZED LENSES. They make so much more sense to me as to why they look funny when rotated in front of a computer screen. It blocks out one direction of light to help reduce glare, as polarized light comes in all different directions from lots of different sources. Emitting one single direction significantly helps with reducing extra light!
AND 3D GLASSES!!! Each eye allows a different direction of light (say left eye allows vertical light whereas right eye allows horizontal), meaning you'll see 2 different images at the same time, which is the 3D component of the glasses! So when you take them off you're just seeing a combination of those 2 images, which is the blurriness you experience without the glasses.
OK this is probably the first and last time I'll ever get this excited about physics.
